Narrative
In 1979, a group of young filmmakers decide to make an adult film on a rural Texas farm, but when their reclusive elderly hosts catch them in the act, the crew finds themselves fighting for their lives. At the South by Southwest premiere of ), writer/director Ti West revealed that during a mandatory two-week COVID-19 quarantine at his New Zealand hotel, he wrote a prequel, Pearl (2022), before production could begin.
The prequel was released in late 2022
A24 saw the script and greenlit the film before production on “X” had even wrapped. He asked star Mia Goth if she wanted to stay in New Zealand and film “Pearl,” and she readily accepted.

When Lorraine enters the basement and turns on the light, there is a modern halogen bulb, with no opening credits. The title doesn’t even appear on screen until the end.
A decent slasher, but one that doesn’t deserve a 96% RT rating
Act Naturally Performed by Loretta Lynn Written by Vonie Morrison, Johnny Russell Courtesy of Geffen Records under license from Universal Music Enterprises. The kills felt conveniently cheap, and honestly, the whole thing was underwhelming.

I expected to feel paranoid or scared, but I didn’t feel much of anything. I spent most of the movie hoping it would improve or surprise me a little, but we’ve seen it all before.
