I’m in the mood for adoration
Kennedy was the subject of Pablo Larraín’s earlier biopic, Jackie (2016), starring Natalie Portman. Maria Callas: Save me a table at the café where the waiters know who I am.
Maria is a solid musical biopic
She was mentioned in Close-Up: Why do We Need the Venice Film Festival? (2024).
It’s a beautifully shot and directed film
Angelina Jolie’s great performance in the lead role holds this film together quite well, and I admire how much she put into the role, especially the operatic singing. The plot is a little disjointed and the pacing a little off, but I still found the film entertaining enough to enjoy, as well as educational about the period and opera in general.
I love the editing, and the black and white shots are gorgeous
I thought this was a solid Pablo Larrain film with a potential Oscar-winning performance from Angelina Jolie. No need to waste time on endless scrolling—here’s the entire list of new movies and TV shows streaming on Netflix this month.
